Birdwell Primary School is a primary school in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, focused on creating an aspirational and inclusive learning environment where children become confident, lifelong learners. Its approach combines a broad, ambitious curriculum with a strong emphasis on respect, ambition and pride, alongside opportunities such as music and wider enrichment. The school aims to develop pupils academically, personally and socially, preparing them to make a positive contribution to society.
The room
Aurora transformed an under-used storage room into a compact, purpose-designed sensory space supporting pupils with additional needs. Designed around the needs of younger pupils in EYFS and KS1, the solution combines sensory lighting, an air tube, an audio system and bespoke padded furniture to create a calm, engaging environment that helps children self-regulate and access activities with greater independence.
A massive thank you for making this project happen at Birdwell. We took some pupils in for the first time yesterday and it was such a pleasure to see their reaction. The staff and I are so grateful! The workmen on site were also great. They worked around the setting and communicated well. We’re really pleased with how it all just happened behind the scenes.
