Building an Immersive Future for SEN Education
An interactive, virtual classroom for the Learning in Harmony Trust
"A touchscreen tablet with the Aurora Console app ensures simple, accessible control, allowing any staff member to operate sessions with ease."
We are delighted to announce the completion of our latest immersive room installation at JFK Special School, part of the Learning in Harmony Trust. Planned as part of a new build extension to the school, the room was designed to deliver the full Aurora immersive experience from day one, including three-wall projection, interactive floor technology, scent, wind, and intuitive controls. The result is a vibrant, fully equipped learning space that will benefit students for years to come.
The Brief
JFK Special School came to us with a clear vision for a fully immersive learning space within a new-build extension, in collaboration with our partner Converge Technology Solutions. The brief called for three-wall projection, an interactive floor, scent and wind effects, ceiling-mounted audio, and straightforward controls that any staff member could use with confidence. Designing the room from the ground up gave us the chance to carefully plan the layout, infrastructure, and equipment from the outset, resulting in a clean and well-considered installation.
The Process
With multiple contractors sharing the same space, including architects, builders, electricians, and ventilation and air conditioning teams, communication was critical throughout. We attended regular project meetings to keep the school's requirements at the centre of every decision. Working with Converge is always a straightforward process, and their involvement helped us manage the complexity of the wider build without losing focus on what mattered most: delivering an outstanding space for JFK's students.
The Results
The completed room measures 4.3m x 3.5m, with a ceiling height of 2.7m. Three Epson projectors deliver seamless wall projection, while a ceiling-mounted Wizefloor One transforms the floor into a fully interactive learning surface. Integrated scent delivery and wind machines enhance the sensory experience, bringing environments to life. A touchscreen tablet with the Aurora Console app ensures simple, accessible control, allowing any staff member to operate sessions with ease.
